Y56k Maintenance Update Instructions
  Note: You must log to your computer as administrator in order to install this software.

The Y56K Maintenance Update updates the Y56K card with two important features:

  • Increased stability and crash recoverability in case of power failures.
  • Allows installation of additional Waves processors.


    • The installer utilizes the Y56K card's RS232 connector (located on the card's panel) for performing the update. Make sure you have a standard RS232 9-pin serial cable to connect your PC's COM port to the Y56K RS232 port.

    NOTE: The Y56K Maintenance Update replaces your Y56K file system. An electrical power failure occurring during the installation process may cause severe damage to the card. In such a case the card will need to be shipped to Yamaha's support labs for restoration.

    However, if for any reason the installation procedure has been interrupted before successful completion (excluding power failure), the installer will perform an uninstall procedure which will return the card to its status prior to the installation process.

    Installing the Y56K Maintenance Update

    NOTE: Be sure to run the installer from a local drive only.

      1.   Power up your Yamaha console/workstation and access the Y56K main window.
      2.   In the Y56K main window click Special to open the Special window, In the Special window click the "Update Mode"         button. This switches the Y56K to Update Mode. Your Y56K is now "waiting" for an update.
      3.   A dialog window prompt will appear. Click the "Continue" button to proceed with the update. Click "Cancel" to abort the         update process.
      4.   The Y56K will now display the "WAITING FOR UPDATE TRANSFER" window.
      5.   On your PC, double click the "Y56K_maint_Setup.exe" file.
      6.   In the Welcome window click "Next". The License Agreement will open.
      7.   In the License Agreement window check "I accept the terms of the license agreement" radio button and click "Next".        The Serial Port window will open.
      8.   In the Serial Port window, choose the appropriate serial COM port to which you have connected the serial cable and         click "Next".
      9.   Click "Install" in order to begin the installation. Please note that the installation procedure may take up to 30 minutes.         Please do not shut down your PC or your console during this time, nor disconnect the serial cable.
      10. After few seconds a popup box will appear prompting you for the backup location of your presets data. Click "Yes" in         order to proceed with the installation.
     

    Y56k/Y96k Plug-Ins/Bundle Installation

    The Y56K/Y96K plug-in installer installs and authorizes a new plug-in or bundle to your Y56K/Y96K card.

    The Y56K/Y96K plug-in installer utilizes the Y56K/Y96K card's RS232 connector (located on the card's panel) for performing the update. Make sure you have a standard RS232 9-pin serial cable to connect your PC's COM port to the Y56K/Y96K RS232 port.

    Purchasing a Y56K/Y96K plug-in or bundle

      1.   Download and save the respective plug-in/bundle installer to your PC.
      2.   Press the corresponding "Buy Now" button. The on-line store cart window will open adding the selected plug-        in/bundle to your shopping cart.
      3.   After completing the purchasing you will be receiving the plug-in/bundle serial to your email address. This serial         number is required in the plug-in/bundle installation procedure (see instructions above).
      4.   Please note to ignore the Installation/Authorization link that is displayed in the last page of the online transaction and in         the email receipt. These instructions refer to authorizing TDM or Native plug-ins and do NOT apply to Y56K/Y96K         processors.

    Installing the plug-in or bundle to your Y56K/Y96K card

    NOTE: Be sure to run the installer from a local drive only. In addition note to complete the installation and authorization procedure in a single run (this is because the Installer uses a random generator for encryption and accordingly each time you run the installer you will receive a different Challenge).

      1.   Power up your Yamaha console/workstation and access the Y56K/Y96K main window.
      2.   In the Y56K/Y96K main window click Special to open the Special window, In the Special window click the "Update         Mode" button. This switches the Y56K/Y96K to Update Mode.
      3.   A dialog window prompt will appear. Click the "Continue" button to proceed with the update. Click "Cancel" to abort the         update process.
      4.   The Y56K/Y96K will now display the "WAITING FOR UPDATE TRANSFER" window.
      5.   On your PC, double click the plug-in installer application file.
      6.   In the Welcome window click "Next". The License Agreement will open.
      7.   In the License Agreement window check "I accept the terms of the license agreement" radio button and click "Next".         The Serial Port selection window will open.
      8.   In the Serial Port window, choose the appropriate serial COM port to which you have connected the serial cable and         click "Next".
      9.   In the Serial Number window, enter your plug-in or bundle serial number as received from Waves after the purchasing         process, and click "Next". For purchasing plug-in please see the "How To Buy" section below.
      10.  In the Plug-In Authorization Challenge window, mark and copy the Challenge exactly as it appears on the screen,          then click "Next". The Paste Plug-In Authorization Response window will open.
      11.  Click the Authorize link. In the following page enter your plug-in serial number as received from Waves and the          Challenge you have just copied from the Installer. Click the Submit button.
      12.  Your Response is displayed in the lower part of the page. Copy it carefully and enter it into the Installer's Paste Plug-         In Authorization Response window.
      13.  Click the "Install" in order to complete the installation. Please note that the installation procedure may take up to 30          minutes. Please DO NOT shut down your PC or your console during this time, nor disconnect the serial cable.
      14.  When the installation procedure is completed, Click "Finish" and restart your console. If your new plug-in is not          displayed in the Y56K/Y96K plug-in list, restart the console a second time.

    New Waves Users

    If you are a new Waves customer and this is the first time you intend to purchase a product from Waves online store, note that a User account will be created for you once the purchasing transaction is complete. Your product will be automatically listed and registered for you in your new account.
